Sick (fit) notes

If you are ill for 7 days or less, you do not need a sick note from the doctor. Your employer might ask you to fill in a form (SC2) to say you were ill. You can get this form from your employer, the surgery reception, or online.

If you are ill for more than 7 days, you will need to speak to a doctor so they can give you a sick note. You will need to do this again if the note needs to be extended.

If your employer asks for a doctor’s sick note for 7 days or less, you may have to pay for it.
